In the home, the Mudi is very much what the breed standard describes: highly aware, observant, and naturally inclined to keep an eye on their surroundings. They often take on their “Watchdog” role seriously, which comes hand-in-hand with a tendency to be vocal. While this can make apartment living more challenging, it’s not impossible with the right structure and training.
One of the breed’s most valued qualities is their ability to settle. Mudis are known for having an excellent “off-switch,” happily matching their owner’s lifestyle, whether that’s an active day out or a quiet evening on the couch. Above all, they are deeply loyal dogs that genuinely want to be with their people as much as possible.
That said, they are still herding dogs at their core, and with that comes instinctual behaviors that should be understood, respected, and appropriately channeled.
