mudi coats & colors
The Mudi coat is one of the breed’s most distinctive and expressive features, offering a range of texture and color. Coats can vary from tight curls to loose waves, all are within the breed standard.
Color in the Mudi is just as diverse. They are found in several colors, all of which can be merle. these colors include black, brown, yellow, white, ash, and ashbrown.

black & black merle

brown & brown merle

yellow & white & merle
note – the merles in this color are “cryptic”, meaning they do not visually display this pattern. yellows & whites must be DNA tested to verify if merle or not.

ash & ashbrown & merle
ash mudis unfortunately can SOMETIMES suffer from color dilute alopecia (CDA) – a genetic condition that can lead to hair thinning, patchy coat loss, and overall coat fragility. While not every dilute dog will be affected, the risk is significant enough that maNY PROGRAMS WILL AVOID PAIRING DOGS TOGETHER THAT CARRY THE DILUTE GENE.
